"Refinishing vs. Stripping"

We have a old home we are remodeling and one thing the owner would like to have done is revive the old hardwood floors. Would it be better to refinish the old wood floor or just strip it and start with a new finish. We are trying to keep the old style look of the home. Any input would be appreciated.

If you’re thinking of stripping the wood floors at your project, take a close look at it first. Antiques (or potential antiques) deserve special consideration in terms of value. If you intend to keep the old style look, we recommend trying to refinishing the old floors rather than stripping it down to bare wood and reapplying new. Stripping an antique can destroy the soft mellowed look wood gets with age (patina) as well as depreciate its value considerably.

Thanks for the quick response and this is exactly what we were looking for. We will discuss with the owners and move forward.
